In your locality Group
- Discuss the experience a blind person would have in the journey from arriving at your practice, going to a consultation, doing anything else required (toilet / further appointments with reception) and then leaving the practice. Click on this link to download a document you will find useful.
- Practice assessing visual acuity. Download this article on the assessment of visual acuity
Examine each others eyes with fundoscope to raise any questions about examination that people have. Ideally have one volunteer in the group who uses dilating drops to make this easier, however please note that they wont be able to drive after this! Click on the Digitial atlas to see pictures of retinas.
- Each group looks into one of the following areas come up with any questions you have regarding these particular areas:
- 1) Medical conditions affecting the eye –West Bridgford Locality
- 2) Red eye both painful and painless – East Bridgford Locality
- 3) Glaucoma and cataracts - Chilwell/Castel Donington /Kegworth Locality
- 4) Optometrists reports – Central Locality
- 5) Acute loss of vision –Sneinton Locality
- 6) Paediatric Opthalmology inc squints, retinoblastoma and tear ducts – Hucknall Locality
- 7) Macular degeneration and blindness and how to cope with blindness inc benefits available.- Arnold Locality
- Hospital locality groups can choose 4 of the above one per group, your leads will contact you.
- Prepare any other questions that they have in relation to ophthalmology in general or your specific area and assign one representative to email these to the VTS office and then ask them at the HDR if they aren’t covered by Mr Kings talk.
- Arrange for registrars to each bring blindfolds to the Ask the expert session on the 8th to experience what it is like to be blind!
- HDR AFTERNOON - SpR's to bring blindfolds and be led into the lecture theatre by someone who doesnt have a blindfold to feel what it is like to be blind.
