This page focuses on how to assess "Reflection"

Reading an article, attending a lecture, can all be a one way process and very passive. We look, listen, but fail to assimilate. And then we forget.

We need to think about what we have read, attended, seen, observed, and learn something from it and then (hopefully) apply it back in our practice, our behaviour and in a more esoteric way, consider whether it alters how we are as an individual. This is the way children learn, and it is the way we should learn.

This is called reflection and it should be an active process.

As Educational Supervisors, we need to look for reflection. There is no value attending a lecture without thinking and reflecting back on the experience. Even if this reflection means that nothing will change (this implies you have listened, compared with your current beliefs, practice, and reflected that on the fact that it agrees with your view)

Levels of reflection This is a one sheet guide to determine the level of reflection demonstrated by the GPR. It ranges from purely descriptive that is not acceptable (I attended a lecture), to analytical, an acceptable level (some evidence of critical thinking) to Evaluative , an excellent level (with further direction of learning)
